Our client, a leading Durban law firm, is looking for a skilled and motivated Tax Associate to join their esteemed Tax Team. This position offers a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic environment, contributing to the success of the firm’s tax department.

As a Tax Associate, you will play a vital role in providing expert legal advice on complex tax matters, acting as counsel on tax issues, and maintaining relationships with clients and stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide clear and concise legal advice on intricate tax matters to clients, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Act as counsel on tax issues, representing clients in negotiations and discussions with tax authorities.
  • Collaborate with internal and external clients, as well as the South African Revenue Service (SARS), to address tax-related concerns and implement effective solutions.
  • Conduct extensive research and analysis of regulatory requirements, interpreting them to develop practical and strategic business solutions.
  • Prepare and draft tax opinions, memoranda, agreements, and other relevant legal documentation.
  • Stay updated with changes in tax legislation, case law, and industry trends to provide accurate and up-to-date advice to clients.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of tax planning strategies, ensuring tax efficiency for clients.
  • Review and analyze financial statements, transactions, and contracts to identify potential tax implications and advise accordingly.
  • Build and nurture strong relationships with clients, understanding their needs and providing exceptional client service.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the tax team and other practice areas within the firm to leverage expertise and deliver comprehensive legal solutions.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • LLB Degree from a recognized institution.
  • Post Graduate LLM in Taxation or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working in the tax department of an auditing firm or law firm.
  • Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of tax law, regulations, and principles.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to provide practical and strategic tax advice.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex legal concepts clearly and concisely.
  • Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational abilities, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in work.
  • Proactive and self-motivated, able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with clients and stakeholders.
