Job Description

Our client, a reputable manufacturing company based in Port Elizabeth, is seeking a highly skilled Quality Manager to oversee the quality department within their plant.

The Quality Manager will play a crucial role in ensuring adherence to quality standards and optimizing processes within the manufacturing plant.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with company rules and regulations as outlined in the disciplinary policy.
  • Oversee the accuracy and alignment of quality data collected by the quality, technical, and production teams with inspection standards.
  • Maintain the functionality of tools, materials, equipment, and measuring tools used by the quality and technical departments.
  • Implement and monitor the 5S process to identify and eliminate waste in the quality and technical departments.
  • Coordinate calibration and maintenance activities for equipment and machines, addressing any safety concerns promptly.
  • Control and monitor audit findings, both internal and external, ensuring timely closure of identified issues.
  • Track and improve upon identified issues related to batch numbers and inspection of parts and processes.
  • Ensure proper setup and calibration of faulty quality equipment and tools before use.
  • Review and manage local design drawings for locally manufactured parts used in the assembly process.
  • Facilitate timely completion of legal documentation and scheduled audits.
  • Support the quality team in addressing rejected forms and parts, ensuring compliance with design and fitment requirements.
  • Ensure monthly upload of quality reports through the EMA system.
  • Provide input and training on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and process improvements as needed.
  • Manage safety-related problems that may impact parts or process inspections, taking immediate action to mitigate risks.
  • Provide feedback on monthly quality reports to the respective teams, ensuring appropriate actions are taken.
  • Control the quality Work in Progress (WIP) to maintain acceptable levels and meet monthly targets.
  • Address and monitor customer complaints and batch problem issues, ensuring effective containment and resolution.
  • Maintain up-to-date employee self-service (ESS) records and process personnel documentation.
  • Prepare monthly quality meeting reports, sharing First Pass Yield (FPY) data within the organization.
  • Address and resolve findings from third-party audits, ensuring closure of previous action items.
  • Improve the value-added cycle time on each process and job, focusing on sign-off rate improvement.
  • Lead investigations and problem resolution activities, including claim reports.
  • Manage the certification process for new model launches, including the Bill of Materials (BOM) and part listing.
  • Take immediate action on any “out of standard” conditions reported by the quality team.
  • Actively participate in problem-solving activities, identifying root causes and implementing containment and corrective actions.
  • Conduct random checks on backup equipment to ensure calibration and compliance with NRCS requirements.
  • Motivate and identify opportunities to eliminate waste in quality, scrap, stock, energy, safety, and process efficiency.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance productivity and cost savings.
  • Communicate and prioritize immediate attention items within the quality teams for all models.
  • Perform adhoc functions within the scope of job requirements.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • National Diploma in Management.
  • Degree in Quality (B-Tech) is preferred.
  • Certification in QMS 9001:2015 and VDA 6.3.
  • Code 14 License is advantageous.
  • Proven experience in quality management within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of quality control processes and methodologies.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to motivate and lead a team.
  • Proficiency in technological troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with local suppliers and market dynamics.
  • Risk-based thinking approach.
