Over the years, Hirsch’s has grown into a chain of mega appliance and home furnishing stores in KZN, Cape Town, and Gauteng, offering the best brands and excellent service. Our client is proud to be a leading player in the retail industry, providing customers with top-quality products and exceptional shopping experiences. Join our dynamic team and be part of our continued success.

Hirsch’s Homestores is looking for a dynamic and experienced Public Relations Officer to join the company’s dynamic team. As a Public Relations Officer, you will play a crucial role in managing and enhancing the company’s reputation through effective media relations and strategic communication initiatives. This is a full-time, onsite role based in Johannesburg.

If you are passionate about public relations, possess excellent communication skills, and thrive in a fast-paced environment, we encourage you to apply. In addition to a competitive salary, we offer attractive remuneration packages and great career development opportunities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage and update media lists to ensure accurate and up-to-date contact information.
  • Develop and distribute press releases, media kits, and other relevant materials to targeted media outlets.
  • Cultivate and nurture relationships with media professionals, journalists, and influencers to promote positive coverage of Hirsch’s Homestores.
  • Monitor and track media coverage to gauge public sentiment and identify opportunities for proactive media engagement.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop and execute the company’s media strategy and messaging.
  • Support crisis communication efforts by providing timely and accurate information to the media and other stakeholders.
  • Organize and coordinate press conferences, media briefings, and other public relations events.
  • Assist in the preparation of speeches, presentations, and other written materials for senior executives.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, news, and best practices in public relations and strategic communication.
  • Serve as a brand ambassador, ensuring consistent messaging and brand representation across all communication channels.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Proven experience in press releases and media relations, ideally within the retail industry.
  • Strong understanding of public relations principles and best practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in English and Afrikaans, both spoken and written.
  • Self-driven and self-disciplined, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driver’s license and own transport.
