Job Description

Our client, a reputable organization in the accounting/finance sector, is seeking an experienced and dedicated Payroll Manager to join their team. With a strong presence in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, our client specializes in providing comprehensive payroll services.

As a Payroll Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring accurate payroll processing, adherence to statutory requirements, and maintaining compliance with relevant legislation. You will also play a vital role in managing the payroll team and collaborating with other departments to ensure smooth payroll operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage payroll functions effectively and efficiently.
  • Submit financial reports related to payroll.
  • Run and oversee payroll processing.
  • Track and maintain records of staff attendance.
  • Plan and meet payroll-related deadlines.
  • Ensure accuracy in input, including contracts, leave, hours, and deductions.
  • Handle garnishee payments accurately and on time.
  • Stay updated with legislation and statutory requirements related to payroll.
  • Complete and submit UIF and COIDA forms as required.
  • Manage and oversee annual and bi-annual tax submissions such as EMP201 and EMP501.
  • Conduct weekly meetings and provide quarterly statistics to Stats SA.
  • Prepare and implement annual wage and salary increases and bonuses.
  • Administer payments to TSA, specifically death and funeral benefits.
  • Address wage queries and perform necessary checks to ensure accuracy.
  • Prepare and submit statutory reports to international auditors and the finance team.
  • Ensure proper receipt and documentation between the Payroll Office and the Branch.
  • Conduct regular checks and balances to maintain accuracy.
  • Load new clients and amend budgets on PaySpace payroll software.
  • Check and load approved leave on PaySpace.
  • Manage ad hoc quotes for additional staff.
  • Create payslips and mock payslips as required.
  • Address costing queries and perform retrenchment calculations.
  • Perform payroll checks and balances to maintain accuracy.
  • Provide wage reports and reconcile wage batches regularly.
  • Deliver net pay listing on a monthly basis.
  • Generate finance reports related to wages and salaries, leave, deserters account, manual intervention, and component variances.
  • Generate HR reports related to employment components, headcount, terminations, recruitment, and probation.
  • Train staff in data capturing and reporting.
  • Conduct monthly appraisals based on KPIs.
  • Develop and maintain fair systems to increase staff performance.
  • Retain staff by empowering them and providing performance-based bonuses.
  • Correspond with branches to improve budget commitment.
  • Utilize costing sheets as budget references.
  • Handle general administrative tasks and maintain proper filing.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
  • 5 to 8 years of experience in payroll management.
  • Proficiency in PaySpace payroll software and the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Proven management experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant legislation and statutory requirements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High level of attention to detail.
