Their vision is to revitalize the financial markets infrastructure, and they are seeking a passionate individual to join their Legal Team and help drive this transformation.

Our client is looking for a skilled and dedicated Legal and Compliance Officer to join their dynamic team. As a Legal and Compliance Officer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring adherence to rules and regulations in the ever-evolving landscape of capital markets, digital currencies, and digital assets.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with local and international regulations pertaining to capital markets, digital currencies, and digital assets.
  • Stay up to date with relevant legislation, such as FICA, FAIS, POPIA, GDPR, OHS, COIDA, B-BBEE, and ISO 27001.
  • Provide expert legal advice and support to internal stakeholders on a wide range of legal matters.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and legal documents.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis to ensure compliance with commercial, corporate, and contract law.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and mitigate legal and compliance risks.
  • Develop and implement internal policies and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct compliance training and awareness programs for employees.
  • Assist in the management of legal disputes and litigation matters.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date legal documentation and records.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in law.
  • 2-3+ years of experience in a relevant legal and compliance position within a corporate environment.
  • Experience in the Financial Technology and/or Banking sector is beneficial.
  • In-depth knowledge of rules and regulations related to capital markets, digital currencies, and digital assets.
  • Excellent knowledge of local commercial, corporate, and contract law.
  • Familiarity with relevant financial legislation, such as FICA and FAIS.
  • Familiarity with compliance legislation, including POPIA, GDPR, OHS, COIDA, B-BBEE, and ISO 27001.

Skills:

  • Demonstrated ability to handle work complexity at Level 4-5.
  • Trustworthy and able to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Strong team player with excellent organizational skills and a detail-oriented, proactive approach.
  • Effective time management skills, with the ability to work well under pressure.
  • Proficient in administrative and managerial tasks.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
  • Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in computer skills.
  • Business acumen and understanding of financial markets.
