Our client, a leading law firm in Durban, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Law Librarian to join their dynamic team. As a Law Librarian, you will play a crucial role in supporting the firm’s legal practitioners with research, information management, and access to legal resources.

This position offers an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented professional with a passion for law and a strong background in library management.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Organize, catalog, and maintain the law firm’s extensive collection of legal resources, including books, journals, databases, and electronic materials.
  • Develop and implement efficient library systems and workflows to ensure easy access to legal resources.
  • Assist legal professionals and staff in locating and retrieving relevant legal materials.
  • Conduct research to identify and acquire new legal resources that are relevant to the firm’s areas of practice.
  • Stay updated on current legal publications, trends, and advancements in legal research methodologies.
  • Collaborate with lawyers and legal staff to provide research support and assistance with legal inquiries.
  • Train and educate legal professionals and staff on utilizing the firm’s library resources effectively.
  • Manage the firm’s online legal databases and subscriptions, ensuring timely renewals and access for authorized personnel.
  • Stay informed about copyright regulations and licensing agreements related to the use of legal resources.
  • Maintain the physical organization of the library space, ensuring a welcoming and efficient environment for users.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience as a Law Librarian in a law firm setting.
  • Strong knowledge of legal research methodologies and resources.
  • Familiarity with legal databases and electronic research tools.
  • Proficiency in using library management systems and cataloging software.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in maintaining library records and resources.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • A bachelor’s degree in library science or a related field is preferred.
