Job Description

Our client, a fast-growing national retailer that specializes in various home finishing products, is seeking a Junior Accountant to join their team in Port Elizabeth.

As a leading franchisor retailer and manufacturer of tiles and related products, our client has established itself as a trusted brand in the industry. This role offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic team and contribute to the ongoing success of the organization.

As a Junior Accountant, you will be responsible for monthly financial reporting, account reconciliation, payroll administration, and ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform monthly closing activities and prepare accurate financial statements.
  • Post journal entries for accrued expenses and revenue, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Analyze and review all accounts, identifying and addressing any discrepancies or anomalies.
  • Ensure intercompany accounts are balanced and reconciled.
  • Prepare monthly financial reports and present findings to management.
  • Coordinate and assist in the preparation of year-end statements with supporting documents.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements and regulations.
  • Reconcile bank statements and resolve any discrepancies.
  • Maintain and reconcile all general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Conduct monthly creditors reconciliations for payment processing.
  • Handle payments, including fixed monthly payments and creditor invoices.
  • Maintain and update fixed asset registers accurately.
  • Record and manage all contracts, ensuring service levels are met.
  • Prepare VAT returns with accurate supporting documentation.
  • Monitor and manage the monthly cash flow of 11 branches.
  • Administer payroll processes accurately and on time.
  • Process petty cash transactions and maintain appropriate records.
  • Assist in implementing and maintaining internal financial controls and procedures.
  • Provide administrative and accounting support to stores as needed.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Matric qualification (Grade 12).
  • Bachelor of Commerce degree in Accounting or related field.
  • Valid driver’s license and own vehicle.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience within the Retail industry.
  • Proficiency in SAP, Pastel, and Psiber software.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
