Job Description

Our client is a reputable organization operating in the logistics industry. With a focus on health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards, the company is committed to providing a high-paced and high-performing work environment. Our client is looking for a proactive and knowledgeable HSE Officer to join their dynamic team in Pomona, JHB. This is a 3-month contract position, subject to review, with salary discussions taking place during the interview process.

As an HSE Officer, you will play a crucial role in policy development and implementation, risk assessment and mitigation, incident investigation, regulatory compliance, emergency response planning, training and awareness, monitoring and auditing, and environmental management.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive HSE policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with ISO 9001 quality management standards.
  • Facilitate effective communication and training programs to promote awareness of HSE policies and quality standards among employees.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments across various operational areas to identify potential hazards.
  • Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies and monitor their effectiveness.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses to determine root causes.
  • Prepare detailed incident reports and provide recommendations for corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Stay updated on regulations related to health, safety, and environmental matters, as well as ISO 9001 standards.
  • Ensure the organization’s compliance with all relevant HSE laws, quality management standards, and ISO 9001 requirements.
  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures and communication protocols.
  • Conduct regular drills to test the effectiveness of emergency response plans.
  • Organize and conduct regular training sessions on HSE topics and ISO 9001 standards for employees at all levels.
  • Promote a culture of safety and quality by fostering awareness and accountability among staff.
  • Establish a system for regular HSE and ISO 9001 audits to assess compliance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to HSE and quality management.
  • Develop and implement environmental management programs to minimize the organization’s impact on the environment.
  • Ensure proper waste management practices are in place.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as an HSE Officer or similar role in the logistics industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of HSE regulations, ISO 9001 standards, and best practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Certification in occupational health and safety (e.g., NEBOSH) is preferred.


Salary will be discussed during the interview and will be based on the candidate’s experience.
