Our client, a prominent coal mining company in Mpumalanga, is seeking a skilled and experienced Geologist to join their team. With a strong presence in the mining industry, our client specializes in coal extraction and exploration. This includes tasks such as drilling, grade control, and geophysics. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work alongside industry experts and contribute to the company’s ongoing success. Remuneration, allowances, and other incentives will be discussed during the interview process.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct geological surveys, mapping, and sampling to identify potential coal reserves.
- Analyze geological data, including core samples and drilling logs, to determine the quality and quantity of coal deposits.
- Collaborate with engineers and other professionals to develop mining plans and optimize coal extraction processes.
- Monitor and evaluate mining operations to ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
- Assess geological risks and provide recommendations to mitigate potential hazards.
- Conduct geological modelling and resource estimation to support mine planning and production forecasts.
- Implement grade control procedures to optimize coal quality and ensure accurate coal grading.
- Utilize geophysical methods, such as seismic surveys, to identify subsurface structures and potential mining areas.
- Monitor and interpret geotechnical data to assess stability and design appropriate support systems.
- Prepare technical reports and presentations summarizing geological findings and recommendations.
- Stay updated with industry trends, advancements in geological technologies, and environmental regulations.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Grade 12 or equivalent.
- BSc Honors Degree in Geology or a related field.
- Registration with a professional institute.
- 5-8 years of experience in the mining industry, preferably with a focus on coal mining.
- High-level relevant experience in operational and exploration geology, including drilling, grade control, and geophysics.
- Proficiency in geological software and data analysis tools.
- Strong knowledge of safety and environmental regulations in the mining industry.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
