Job Description

Our client, a leading company in the Fire Protection sector located in Randburg, Gauteng, is seeking a skilled and experienced Estimator to join their dynamic team.

The company is looking for an Estimator who will be responsible for completing technical price estimations, providing technical specifications, and delivering value for money solutions to customers.

As the Estimator, you will play a crucial role in managing estimation workplans, coordinating estimation for projects, verifying estimate quality, and presenting estimates to project teams. Additionally, you will contribute to technical expertise enhancement and support pricing activities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the estimation workplan, including receiving estimation requests, prioritizing tasks, and delivering estimations on time and to standard.
  • Coordinate estimation for allocated projects, understanding requirements, defining preliminary estimates, and delivering final estimates within scheduled deadlines.
  • Participate in project meetings to gather information, verify technical requirements, and discuss project timing and deadlines.
  • Verify the quality and completeness of estimates by reviewing designs, ensuring compliance with technical requirements, and approving estimates before submission.
  • Present estimates to project teams, receive feedback, and implement approved changes.
  • Perform post-implementation profit analysis, evaluate estimation assumptions, calculate costs, and develop recommendations for future project profitability.
  • Build supportive relationships with project team members and customers, providing technical and estimate support as needed.
  • Provide technical expertise to departments by compiling and correcting technical specifications and offering feedback to clients and industry professionals.
  • Mentor project team members on technical design and compliance.
  • Stay updated on technical advancements and requirements through participation in forums, workshops, and research.
  • Apply good practice standards to projects, identify opportunities for enhancement, and lead the implementation of approved recommendations.
  • Complete estimations for specialist technical designs, including defining technical requirements, securing quotations, and calculating pricing.
  • Update the estimation price list, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Verify and improve estimation principles, procedures, standards, and assumptions.
  • Evaluate pricing in comparison with competitors, develop recommendations, and implement approved changes.
  • Complete estimates for sales proposals, engaging with design and sales teams to enhance pricing and discuss technical improvements and cost management.
  • Handle estimation administration tasks, including updating plans, preparing reports, filing estimates, and managing project estimation profitability.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • NQF 6 qualification in Business Management, Cost Management, Finance, or a related field is required.
  • Relevant experience in the absence of a qualification will be considered.
  • ASIB/IFE Certificate or similar certification is required.
  • 2-3 years of experience as an Estimator in Fire Protection is required.
