Job Description

Oasis Life Retirement is looking for a talented and passionate Demi/CDP Chef to join their dynamic team in Burgundy Estate, Cape Town. As a key member of the culinary team, you will contribute to creating memorable dining experiences for the residents of the retirement village.

This is a permanent position with a 3-month fixed term probationary period. Remuneration and benefits will be discussed during the interview process.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation and cooking of high-quality meals according to menu specifications and resident preferences.
  • Ensure adherence to food safety and sanitation standards, maintaining a clean and organized work area.
  • Collaborate with the culinary team to develop and refine menus that cater to the dietary needs and preferences of the residents.
  • Monitor inventory levels and assist in placing orders for ingredients and supplies.
  • Follow standardized recipes and portion sizes to maintain consistency and quality.
  • Support the Head Chef in training and mentoring junior kitchen staff.
  • Assist with food presentation and garnishing to enhance visual appeal.
  • Adhere to health and safety regulations, including proper handling and storage of food items.
  • Participate in menu planning meetings and contribute creative ideas for new dishes and special events.
  • Engage with residents, gathering feedback and addressing any concerns or special requests.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar role as a Demi/CDP Chef.
  • Formal culinary training or relevant qualifications are preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of kitchen procedures and best practices.
  • Excellent understanding of food safety and sanitation regulations.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and demanding environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and a passion for delivering exceptional culinary experiences.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays.
