Our client, a hospitality company based in Cape Town, is seeking a skilled and experienced Accountant to oversee the full finance function of the hotel and restaurants.

The hospitality company is looking for an Accountant to join their dynamic team. As the Accountant, you will be responsible for managing the financial operations, budgeting, and analyzing financial data for the hotel and restaurants. Your role will involve overseeing the full finance function, ensuring accuracy and compliance.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years’ financial management experience, proficiency in SAGE Evolution and advanced Excel, and a strong understanding of financial reporting standards. This position offers a highly negotiable salary package and an immediate start date.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Process all invoices and month-end journals for sales, accruals, prepayments, and depreciation on a day-to-day basis.
  • Handle the processing of bank accounts and petty cash books, including bank reconciliations and petty cash reconciliations.
  • Issue invoices to property debtors and follow up on payments.
  • Collate and load bi-monthly and monthly supplier payments according to payment terms.
  • Prepare monthly management accounts and executive summaries, monitoring financial performance and detailing variances of actual results vs. prior year and budget.
  • Reconcile all balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis and promptly resolve any differences.
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and monitor spending in line with the budget on a monthly basis.
  • Compute payroll input sheets and review monthly payroll reports.
  • Compute, reconcile, and submit monthly VAT.
  • Submit and pay payroll taxes on a monthly basis.
  • Implement Finance Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) issued by head office.
  • Coordinate with external auditors for the year-end audit, ensuring timely completion and sign-off of the annual financial statements.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years’ financial management experience.
  • Proficiency in SAGE Evolution and advanced Excel.
  • Knowledge of Opera and Micros will be advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting standards (IAS, IFRS).
  • Ability to collaborate with the team as well as work independently.
  • Attention to detail and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a pressurized environment with deadlines.
  • Strong planning and organizational abilities.
