Jobs portal CareerJunction has revealed a list of jobs that saw growing hiring activity in the past three months.
The group’s latest Employment Insights Report showed that although there has been a slight slip in recruitment activity in October by 4% month-on-month.
Despite this, the report noted that it is reassuring for job-seekers in South Africa that hiring activity remains 9% higher than it was in October 2021.
To represent online labour dynamics in South Africa, the CareerJunction report analyzes supply and demand trends in the online employment market.
The analysis is based on 5,000 of South Africa’s largest recruiters, agencies and employers, who advertise their job positions on the portal.
Career Junction reported significant hiring activity in building & construction, architecture and engineering and finance sectors have seen the biggest increase in hiring activity.

- Artisan

Provincial differences
According to Career Junction, the majority of employment vacancies remain in Gauteng at 54%, with little movement being recorded in relation to recruitment per location.
“Just over 30% of job offers are in the Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal. International work opportunities remain at 3%.”
Demand for sales professionals has grown consistently when looking at August, September and October over the past three years (2020 to 2022) in KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng and the Western Cape, said Career Junction.
Marketing professionals have been having a tougher time, with demand in the Western Cape falling by 9% when compared to last year. Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal are, however, showing consistent growth in demand for marketing professionals.
“Similarly, demand for design, media & arts professionals declined between 2021 and 2022 in the Western Cape (by 34%) and in KwaZulu-Natal (-5%). However, recruitment activity for design, media & arts professionals is growing continuously in Gauteng,” added the jobs portal.
Marketing
CareerJunction also highlighted significant growth in job opportunities in marketing in certain areas of South Africa – mostly Gauteng and KwaZulu Natal.
According to the group, scarce skills in this sector include:

- Marketing coordinators
- Marketing assistants
Some market-related salaries applicants can expect in the field include:
- Digital Marketing Specialists – (R27,556 to R37,461 per month)
- Marketing Coordinator – (R17,983 to R21,350 per month)
- Digital Marketing Manager – (R38,333 to R49,645 per month)
